Double chute accident

This guy is just one of the unluckiest, and in the same time, luckiest man on Earth. His first free fall ever ends up with two crashes. Now that is really serious, but he survives. Double chute accident in the same jump, and the man lives to tell his tale. Lucky or unlucky? What do you think?

  1. Man. This person seems like he was either so nervous about loosing his first shoot, or he didn’t get enough training. He should have seen those power lines coming from a while away. Maybe it’s the camera angle, but it sure looks like he had more than enough time to react.

  2. Well, the problem is that the student pulled his cut-away handle, just at the same time as the instruction is opening his main canopy; that is why the main canopy was released right away.

  3. I don’t think he’s unlucky considering he caused all of the problems by his own actions.

His task during the first jump is simply to grab the ripcord handle and pull it, then steer the parachute and land. Instead he pulls the cutaway handle (thus disconnecting the parachute). There are three handles available, all located at different locations. There are plenty of training on the ground to pull the right handle, yet he pulls the wrong one… He was clearly not ready for this jump (and perhaps not any jump), but he choose to do it. He was perhaps focusing a bit on the camera instead of what he wass supposed to do (in the video it doesn’t seem like he ever looks at the altimeter)? I don’t think the camera flyer should have been with them on that jump for just that reason.

Then he didn’t pull the reserve handle. “They didn’t tell me what to do if it flew away” or whatever he said… No, they probably didn’t tell him what would happen if the parachute was pink either, but I’m quite sure they said – if you can’t identify the problem, cut away and pull the reserve handle.

Finally he just hangs there and don’t steer away from the power lines. It wasn’t a matter of luck or not if he was going to land in the power lines. He was flying a steerable parachute and he didn’t steer.

If it had been me, I wouldn’t have shown myself on tv telling people about how unwilling I am to accept responsibility for my own actions… But I guess lawsuites have replaced that in his country…

  4. Oh my word, he did nothing right!!!! Somebody up there must love him. How can you confuse your cutaway with your BOC??? How can you not know what to do after that…., you’re normally well trained before they’ll let you get the plane. Clearly he is an IDOT!!!! Then he goes on tv to give feedback like that. Now he is a national idiot 🙂
